Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some general questions and answers about RPN.

Our members are covered for death occurring anywhere in the world, provided they maintain their primary address in Canada and their membership with the sponsoring association or group is undisputed.

RPN has delegated this responsibility to member associations and groups that are closer to their members. However, it is highly recommended that the first and last names in the database match the members' official documents.

Upon registration, each association/group as well as all individuals sponsored by the same association/group are assigned an identification code. In the event of a death, RPN conducts a formal investigation to confirm that the deceased is a member of the RPN Network. This investigation includes an identification process carried out officially by professionals (such as Magnus Poirier), who have the authority and means to produce the deceased's medical file as required.

The association/group pays $20 for RPN Network membership. This membership gives the association/group the privilege to provide coverage to all of its members.

Membership takes effect from the day RPN receives the membership fees.

Coverage of members takes effect 90 calendar days following their date of registration with RPN.

Coverage can be terminated by providing written or verbal notice to your association, or through a letter from your association to the RPN Management Committee clearly stating the intention to become an inactive member of the RPN network. (If your decision is personal, please inquire about the conditions for reactivating your membership.) Additionally, you will lose your coverage immediately if our office uncovers attempted fraud during an investigation initiated by us, or based on information received from your association or any concerned party within the RPN network.

RPN is not an insurance company. Its primary mission is to support its members in the event of death by covering all associated costs, ensuring they receive proper care. Once the repatriation of the remains and the deceased's final wishes are fulfilled, any remaining funds are provided to the family without further conditions.

Individuals cannot register directly as members of RPN; they must go through associations, which are responsible for sponsoring them. While an individual can be affiliated with multiple associations within RPN, they will only be registered with RPN through one association at a time to prevent duplication. Choosing to become inactive is unconditional; however, regaining active status is subject to strict conditions that must be verified with the Management Committee.

There is no probation period for member associations, as the membership process is straightforward. However, individual members will undergo a probation period of 90 days to prevent any intentional exploitation of RPN network benefits.

Payments are made through the RPN's website by Credit Card and Interac for participating financial institutions.

Contributions are made in a single payment within 8 days after a death announcement.

No, RPN does not accept contributions in anticipation of future deaths.

However, within your association/group, you can make a deposit in anticipation of contributing to future deaths.

If contributions are not received by the payment due date, the association can be penalized and eventually deactivated from RPN. This will result in loss of membership for the association and coverage for the individual members.

You can renew your membership and coverage for your members by paying the past due amount(s) plus any penalty.

You can cancel your membership by sending a letter to the RPN Management Committee stating your intention to terminate your association's or group's membership. The letter must clearly include: We have decided to terminate our membership with full awareness of the facts, and all our members understand that they can only benefit from RPN network protection under specific strict conditions. This decision reflects the will of our General Assembly. The names of your members will be accessible through a general filter in our database.

Only the Executives of the association or group to which the deceased belonged can officially contact the RPN Management Committee. Following this, RPN will issue a formal Death Announcement , initiate a call for contributions and contact the funeral home partner.

Except for extraordinary circumstances, associations have up to thirty (30) days from the date of occurrence or knowledge of the death, to notify RPN.

Fraud is defined as any deliberate action aimed at misleading by presenting false information, making false representations, or concealing relevant facts for the purpose of determining the decision of the Association or obtaining an undue advantage.

The following are considered to be fraud:

Registering a member or dependent member who is not domiciled in Canada.

A registration of any category of member that is not in accordance with the Articles of Association.

Deliberately reversing the order of a member's first and last names when registering them.

Registering a visiting member domiciled outside Canada.

Modifying the personal information of a member, dependent member or visiting member on the RPN platform after the latter's death.

A fraudulent death claim.

Unauthorized use of a member’s registration number and personal data for purposes other than those defined and identified by RPN.

Misrepresentation.

Any member (association/group) involved in fraud against R.P.N automatically loses their membership and protection, and can never rejoin the Network unless otherwise notified in writing by the Board of Directors in accordance with RPN's bylaws.

RPN provides socio-community coverage and focuses on a community approach that values human relationships.

Recognizing that money can never replace human relationships, RPN promotes its community agreement for the repatriation of remains and the fulfillment of last wishes. Through this community agreement members are not required to make monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual contributions.

We remain covered and protected under the membership agreement that connects each association to RPN. The strength of the RPN project lies in the principle that no contributions are required as long as there are no deaths within the network of RPN member associations/groups.

To clarify, imagine a family consisting of two parents and three children, where only the mother is a member of an RPN-affiliated association and has included her entire family under her membership. This commitment incurs no cost to the mother, yet her entire family of five is protected and will receive assistance according to the socio-community promise.
